Camp Tree Song, a Nature Camp in the Mountains of North Carolina

An outdoor immersive sleepaway camp, with daily hiking and water adventures, based on a farm outside of Asheville and Hendersonville, NC.

Discover the Magic of Camp Tree Song

Camp Tree Song is led by seasoned staff and outdoor educators, with decades of experience safely guiding children into the outdoors. Our campers become stewards of the earth, learning to read the wisdom written in fern fronds and the calls of native birds. The creators of Camp Tree Song aim to provide a more affordable summer camp option for 7- to 13-year-old children, which offers deep connection with nature and quality time spent in the outdoors. Safety

As parents and educators, we know it can be hard to put the safety of your children into the hands of others, and we take our role very seriously. Our guides are certified in CPR and First Aid, with additional training in Wilderness Safety, as well as education in the social, emotional, and developmental needs of growing children. They carry two way radios at all times to keep communication flowing and call for help should a situation arise, and we have detailed safety protocols in place. We also abide by the “Rule of Three,” in which a camper is not left alone with just one other camper or one adult.

Our heart-centered approach means your kids bond quickly with their Pack Leader, giving the guide an opportunity to monitor for adequate food and water intake, and any changes in presentation that might indicate that a child doesn’t feel well. We are sensitive to all of your child’s needs and hold their comfort and safety as a top priority.

Camp Packs

Your child will have the opportunity to learn with a variety of mentors and kids throughout their camp experience, but will be assigned to a specific Camp Pack on day one. This group consists of 6-7 children within a similar age range and approximate hiking ability. Campers will spend their morning adventure block with this group, hiking, paddling, and exploring. This model allows for the Pack Leader to really get to know each child, ensuring their ability to meet individual needs. It also allows for kids to securely explore and adventure within their personal limits. We have a detailed questionnaire in the registration process that will help us match your child with the best Camp Pack for them.

Camper Expectations

Sleep away camp is a big deal! It’s a privilege and it’s also a responsibility. Please take a look at the list below, to understand the basic expectations we hold each camper to. If your child is not able to consistently do any of the following, please give us a call to discuss whether Camp Tree Song would be a good fit for them this year.

  • Follow instructions
  • Exhibit age appropriate self-control and self-regulation
  • Respect themselves, others, and the world around them
  • Recover from setbacks and receive coaching in a developmentally appropriate way
  • Effectively communicate with other children and adults
  • Hike 2 to 3 miles each day
  • Recognize and respond to social cues from peers and adults
  • Eat, bathe, use the restroom, and go to sleep without help
  • Enjoy being outdoors

Camper Commitment

In order to ensure a physically and emotionally safe camp experience for all, we begin camp with a pledge of honor. Campers are asked to respect themselves, each other, and the land. Our first community circle will cover our pledge and agreements in detail and set the tone for a wonderful camp experience!

The Tree Song Campus

Camp Tree Song is located on a horse and alpaca farm just 40 minutes southwest of Asheville, NC and 15 minutes west of Hendersonville, North Carolina. The property hosts two buildings with showers and restrooms, included a charming horse barn, surrounded by beautiful mature oaks and pine trees. Campers interact daily with the farm alpacas and sweet donkey. The property has curated trails filled with wooden bridges, babbling creeks, and bench swings. Tree Song’s campus borders the vast network of Kanuga trails, which we access for additional creek play and long range vistas. While breakfast and dinner occur on campus, we pack lunches and snacks for our daily outings. Camp Tree Song has a tent village full of cozy bell tents, housing cots with comfortable mattresses. Art activities are conducted around the barnyard and in gathering areas of the woods and pastures. Sack races and other field games, and evening campfires, also take place in Tree Song’s pastures. We further extend the possibilities of adventure by taking day trips to Pisgah National Forest and Dupont State Forest, and by joining Green River Adventures for a guided kayaking adventure.
