View Elk in the Smoky Mountains!
This Asheville hiking tour is all about wildlife! This tour is ideal if you’re looking for a scenic tour with guaranteed sightings of bull elk claiming their harem during the “elk rut” mid-September to mid-October. Your guide discusses the wildlife biology of elk, including the story of their reintroduction to North Carolina in 2001.
You also get the chance to tour the historical structures that were once part of the old Cataloochee community in the valley, including homes, barns, a church, and a school. Cross a scenic footbridge to a historic home and take in stunning, long-range mountain views from a Smoky Mountain overlook.
This is an evening hike that lasts about four hours and covers half a mile.
Please note that in the event a tour is canceled due to heavy rain our guides will contact you directly.
