Pick-up location: Pick-up at your hotel or B&B near downtown Asheville, or a nearby convenient meeting place
Difficulty: Very easy 1/2-mile forest walk, but can be modified for Private Tours
Recommended clothing: Dress in layers for this tour; boots or sturdy tennis shoes recommended but not required

This tour highlights the impressive scenery and wildlife of the Smoky Mountains! Discover the famous “elk rut” when bull elk claim their harem in September and October. Your guide shares fascinating facts about elk biology and the 2001 elk reintroduction and takes to you to a special spot with stunning mountain views!
On this tour, you will also discover the history of the Cataloochee community, a scenic valley that was abandoned during the creation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Cross a scenic footbridge to a historic home, view old structures once alive in a thriving community, and learn about an earlier way of rural life.
This is an evening tour that lasts about 4.5 hours and includes a very easy 1/2-mile forest walk. The drive from Asheville to the elk is approximately 50 minutes (with the last 25 minutes being scenic).
